Father’s Day Memories In Beautiful North Texas

With Father’s Day just around the bend, we are excited to hear about the memories that will be created, especially in our Bridges at Preston Crossings community in Gunter, TX.  Do you have a tradition that you celebrate each year? One such tradition was shared with us by a dad and his two sons. From the time the boys were able to swing a golf club, their dad always made  a special occasion out of them playing golf together on Father’s day. The boys still recall stories of sunny skies, rolling green hills, fresh air, lost balls, sand traps, and a few to many mulligans. These same boys now share this tradition with their children. How fortunate it is to live where you can step just outside your home and have the signature Bridges Golf Course available to create lasting memories. Hole in one for Dad!

Another great tradition shared by a daughter and her dad is how they spend each Father’s Day riding horses.  A passion they both adore. A day absorbing nature, from the smell of blossoming trail trees to the exhilarating sound of horse’s hooves breaking into a run, creates a lasting bond between generations.  A major benefit of living in North Texas land country is there is plenty of room for horses. The Bridges Equestrian Center provides the perfect location for the equestrian enthusiast offering miles of well groomed trails, boarding and lessons. We expect many more memories to be built from experiences at this brand new facility.

We want to hear your stories. Please share what makes Father’s Day special for you, in the comment section below.

Happy Father’s Day!

Celebrating the American Spirit-Smiles Charity Concert and Festival

Blue sunny skies accompanied by the roar of  WWII era airplanes flying overhead and the contagious laughter of children, were just a few of the day’s treats that made the 2011 Smiles Charity Concert and Festival in McKinney, TX an event celebrating the American spirit. With thousands in attendance over the Memorial Day weekend, this annual charity concert not only brings community together, it pays homage to our armed services and veterans.

Due to generous local and corporate businesses sponsors, the day was filled with family fun, local food and drinks, outstanding entertainment, and ooh – aah fireworks! From Hollie Cavanaugh’s moving performance of the National Anthem (yes she was a contestant on American Idol), to McKinney’s Mayor Brian Loughmiller riding a mechanical bull and Uncle Kracker’s get on your feet and dance performance, the event did not disappoint.

The greatest joy provided by Smiles Charity Concert and Operation Finally Home is that 100% of the profits from this annual event are then donated to build homes for disabled veterans and widows of fallen soldiers. This year’s recipients are Levi Wilson and Alan Hornaday. Bluegreen Communities is proud to be involved in this gifting and honoring of our American soldiers. They deserve our sincerest thanks.

Double the Fun! Charity Event and Grand Opening

Sunshine and two fantastic fun filled events!  Last Saturday proved to be a day to remember, especially for those that attended the Rock Roll and Smile 5k Fun Run benefiting Operation FINALLY HOME recipients and the Grand Opening of the Bridges Equestrian Center in Gunter, Texas.

Going the extra mile or in this instance the extra 3.1 miles, Smiles Charity motivated the runners by providing entertaining bands along the trail. The hills were literally alive with blooming wild flowers and the sound of music.  A great cause, gorgeous scenic trails and melodious tunes all made for a runner’s paradise.

The day’s enjoyment continued after the charity run and flowed over to the new Bridges Equestrian Center. The hay rides were a big hit, followed closely by the pony rides. With over 150 people touring the facility, staff at the center exclaimed excitement from all the positive feedback. Visitors were enthralled with the surrounding beauty and had not previously known that the Bridges was such a wonderful and unique community. After this exciting event, the Equestrian Center will surely be called home for some much loved horses.

Restaurant Review: MOMS on the GREEN

Since celebrating their grand opening on March 1st, 2011 MOMS on the GREEN has created quite a buzz in Gunter Texas. Serving scrumptious homemade American style cuisine, this restaurant is quickly becoming a local community favorite. A spot on description was shared by Facebook fan Jeanine Hawkins, “Wonderful dinner, great service, great atmosphere… AWESOME chocolate chess pie! We will definitely be back…”.

Nestled in The Bridges at Preston Crossings, the restaurant’s scenery adds to the delight of your dining experience. With outdoor patio seating providing a beautiful view of the surrounding ponds and Bridges Golf Course, it’s easy to understand why MOMS is the place to be.  A highlight to the restaurant’s menu repertoire is the All-YOU-CAN-EAT Catfish and Shrimp on Friday nights. Join in the festiveness of this popular evening with a tasty margarita or by indulging in a piece of delectable pie.

Whether you are seeking a family friendly restaurant, a casual establishment to enjoy a relaxing lunch after a round of golf, or a delicious weekend breakfast buffet made from scratch, there is no need to look any further than MOMS to satisfy your hunger.

Groundbreaking for Operation FINALLY HOME

Please join us on Thursday, March 10 for a groundbreaking ceremony to honor Army Specialist Hugo L. Gonzalez and his family and participate in a day of fun. Festivities will begin at 2:00 p.m. at The Bridges at Preston Crossings. The groundbreaking ceremony will be followed by a “stock the lake” event in preparation for the upcoming Patriot Bass Tournament on April 2 benefitting Operation FINALLY HOME.

It feels like yesterday that we were at the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl awarding this special family a mortgage-free, custom built home. Through the help of NAPE Expo, Smiles Charity and other local business donors, we are able to make this a dream come true for the Gonzalez family.

Hugo Gonzalez sustained injuries in Iraq in 2004 after his Humvee was attacked. Starting today, Hugo and his family are one step closer to coming home.

Through Operation FINALLY HOME, two other veterans and their familes have received mortgage-free homes that are currently under construction at the Bridges, and coming this Spring, two more families will receive new homes as well. We can’t express how proud we are to work with an organization that contributes to such a worthy cause!
